ICC Rankings: Rohit Sharma slips further after BGT horror show; Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah retain top spot

India star Ravindra Jadeja has maintained his top spot at the top of the latest ICC Rankings for Test allrounders, released by the governing body of the game on Wednesday (January 22).

The spin-bowling allrounder played in the last three Tests of the five-match series against Australia. In the Brisbane Test, Jadeja played a crucial knock of 77 runs although he went wicketless with the ball. In the Melbourne Test, he picked up 4 wickets including 3 wickets in the first innings in addition to scoring 19 runs.

The India allrounder finished the series by scoring 39 runs in the final Test and going wicketless with the ball. Following the display in Australia, he has managed to retain his top spot in the ICC Rankings. Jadeja is sitting at the pinnacle of ICC Rankings with 400 rating points. He is followed by South Africa’s Marco Jansen (294) and Bangladesh’s Mehidy Hasan (263).

Rohit Sharma slips in ICC Rankings:

Among batsmen, India skipper Rohit Sharma has paid the price for his horror show with the bat in Australia. The right-handed batsman missed the first Test in Perth before playing the next three Tests. He also decided against playing in the fifth and final Test in Sydney owing to his poor form.

In three Tests, Rohit scored only 31 runs with a top score of 10 runs. After the poor display, Rohit has dropped one spot to the 43rd place in the ICC Rankings for Test batsmen. His teammate and former India skipper Virat Kohli also remains outside the top 25 of ICC Rankings. Kohli, however, has moved up one spot to the 26th place.

Pakistan’s Saud Shakeel has made a big gain in the latest ICC Rankings after his impressive display against West Indies in the first Test. The left-handed batsman scored 84 runs in the first innings and has jumped up three spots to the 8th place ahead of Steve Smith (9th) and Rishabh Pant (10th).

England star Joe Root is currently at the top of the ICC Rankings for Test batsmen with 895 rating points. He is followed by his England teammate Harry Brook (876) and New Zealand star Kane Williamson (867).

Among bowlers, India pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah continues to lead the pack. With a career-best points tally of 908, Bumrah is at the top of the ICC Rankings for Test bowlers. He is followed by Australia’s Pat Cummins (841) and South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada (837).

Pakistan spinner Noman Ali has gained in the rankings after taking six wickets against West Indies. He has broken into the top 10. His teammate Sajid Khan has improved his position as well, climbing 18 places to No. 23.
