Old Glory Studios funds tactical shooter title with equity-based crowdfunding

New developer Old Glory Studios today announced the launch of its new crowdfunding campaign, in partnership with Folla Capital, LLC. The studio, which is founded by military veterans who previously worked on titles such as Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon and The Division, plans to develop military-based titles, with its launch game being team-based PvP shooter Victory’s Grave: Outflank. To build this title, Old Glory has launched a “Regulation Crowdfunding” campaign, which will give investors equity in the studio.

According to its founders, Old Glory will use the funding to build Victory’s Grave, with a minimum investment of $500 and an ultimate goal of $1,235,000. They offer SAFE (Simple Agreement for Future Equity) interests, which will go towards the game’s “cutting-edge production, innovative marketing campaigns, and key operational expansions,” according to Folla’s campaign page.

Old Glory operates as a shamrock organization, according to its founders. It’ll feature a core team — Old Glory’s co-founders, Lewis Manalo and Matt Patak — with specialized tasks outsourced to freelancers. Patak and Manalo, the studio’s creative director and executive producer, respectively, told GamesBeat that the studio already has a playable prototype of Victory’s Grave complete.

Regulation crowdfunding and building a different military shooter

Manalo and Patak, told GamesBeat in an interview that Victory’s Grave: Outflank’s unique element is its tactical element. Patak said the game’s RTS features add a new level of strategy to the gameplay: “Every round will be a new and unique experience, allowing for maximum replayability. The game realization will exaggerate the realism without losing the feeling of authenticity.” The studio also has plans for follow-ups in place already.

Manalo added that part of the impetus behind the game came from his work on Ghost Recon: Wildlands. “[That] was the very first AAA game I wrote on, and when it came out I was shocked to learn that not everybody likes playing narrative campaigns. Some people only played through the open world, and some only played PvP… Our vision is to produce these game modes as separate titles that share a narrative. It reduces our risk as a studio, and it will save the player money while still offering them every experience. Victory’s Grave: Outflank is the PvP game.”

Manalo told GamesBeat in an interview that Old Glory felt that crowdfunding was the most advantageous option for the studio’s unusual shamrock structure. “Regulation Crowdfunding, unique in the United States, allows us to directly raise capital from investors. Unlike pledge-based crowdfunding, where people are essentially pre-buying a product, investors in a Reg CF get equity in the company. It’s become pretty common for a lot of businesses, and there’s no reason game studios shouldn’t be using it, too.”

John Panaccione, Folla Capital Partner, said in a statement, “This initiative represents a unique opportunity for investors to back a veteran-led company with a clear roadmap for success in the gaming industry. Supporting Old Glory Studios is about more than potential financial returns; it’s about being part of a team pushing boundaries in storytelling and game design.”
