Man City secure summer signing of “unbelievable” £66m star, claims report

Manchester City have now secured the summer signing of an “unbelievable” midfielder, who has also been targeted by a number of Premier League clubs and Real Madrid, according to a report.
City keen on a midfielder
City’s struggles since Rodri suffered an ACL injury have arguably underlined the need for Pep Guardiola to bring in additional depth in the middle of the park, and a number of potential targets have now been identified ahead of the summer transfer window.
Real Madrid’s Eduardo Camavinga has emerged as one of the most high-profile names on the shortlist, with the Spanish club looking to receive around £50.3m-£58m, which is an affordable fee for the Sky Blues.
Guardiola’s side have also been making moves for some up-and-coming talents, with Rosenborg’s Sverre Nypan, who is said to be a key target for Arsenal, believed to be of interest.

Another option from much closer to home is Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, with a recent report revealing Man City have sent scouts to watch the midfielder, and there has now been a new update on their transfer pursuit.
According to a new report from Spain, Man City have already secured the arrival of Wharton ahead of the summer transfer window, having been willing to shell out a ‘considerable amount’ to get a deal over the line.
Guardiola has identified the need for depth in midfield, having struggled since Rodri has been sidelined, and the Crystal Palace star is viewed as an attractive option, given that he has proven himself in the Premier League
Real Madrid, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are all known to be interested in the Englishman, but the report seems to indicate the reigning Premier League champions have won the transfer race.
“Unbelievable” Wharton could be a top signing
In truth, the report should be treated with a lot of skepticism, given that no other outlets have reported that a deal is even close to being completed.
However, should City come out on top in the race for the 21-year-old, there are plenty of indications he could be a long-term success at the Etihad Stadium.
During his time with his hometown club, the Blackburn-born maestro was lauded as “unbelievable” by members of the media, and he has since been on a meteoric rise, with his debut season at Palace earning him a call-up to England’s Euro 2024 squad.
It is clear City need an injection of youth in midfield, with Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin De Bruyne now arguably in the twilight years of their careers, and the Palace star has impressed on a number of key metrics for midfielders over the past year.

Wharton will not come cheap, with previous reports stating he could cost around £66m, but the youngster’s performances for Palace suggest he could be a top signing.
