The S&P 500 squeaked out a record closing high, after all.
The market benchmark closed up 0.3%, topping its closing high from Jan. 23. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 10 points, or less than 0.1%. The Nasdaq Composite rose 0.1%.
The major indexes also pared earlier losses in the final minutes of trading.
