Arsenal chiefs think one “ridiculously good” striker could be a bargain this summer, and they may even try to strike a deal before June 10th as new director Andrea Berta contemplates ending the club’s search for a centre-forward early doors.

Arsenal urged to sign new striker after Berta appointment

The appointment of Berta is big news for Mikel Arteta, and reports throughout the week have claimed that the Italian is already getting busy.

The Italian’s personally reached out to another player.

Berta has held talks with the representatives of Nico Williams, according to media sources from both England and France, while the 53-year-old is also planning to reinforce Arteta’s goalkeeping department, defensive, midfield and striking options (GiveMeSport).

However, the main area almost every Arsenal supporter wants to see addressed is at number nine. Long-term injuries to Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz have left Arteta with few choices, with Mikel Merino even used as an emergency striker.

A prolific striker up top has long been viewed as the missing piece of Arteta’s jigsaw, even before this injury crisis, with talkSPORT’s Darren Bent calling it their number one transfer priority this summer.

Arsenal's Kai Havertz with manager Mikel Arteta after being substituted

“The biggest one, which every person on planet Earth knows, they need to buy a striker,” said Bent.

“They have to buy a striker, because [Kai] Havertz has done well, but for consistency throughout a Premier League

season, you need a centre-forward who’s gonna chip in with goals, 15-20 every single season.”

Newcastle United star Alexander Isak is a reported dream target for Arsenal, but the Magpies are demanding a minimum of £150 million to let their star player leave, so this move looks like a non-starter.

RB Leipzig starlet Benjamin Sesko is a more attainable option for Arsenal, with the Slovenian’s contract including a £60 million release clause. The 21-year-old is also said to be keen on a move to the Emirates Stadium (GiveMeSport).

However, another very in-form striker turning Arsenal heads is Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres.

Gyokeres is believed to prefer Arsenal to Man United, while other reports suggest Berta is set to open club-to-club talks over the 26-year-old’s transfer.

Now, TEAMtalk has weighed in with its own piece of information on the saga.

The outlet reports that Arsenal see Gyokeres as a striker of “excellent value”, amid reports he’d cost £70 million, and Berta could use the early transfer window to get a new forward over the line in early fashion.

This window, which allows sides to sign players before the Club World Cup, is open from June 1st to June 10th, with the Gunners potentially using this timeframe to reinforce Arteta’s centre-forward options.

Gyokeres has enjoyed yet another unbelievably prolific season in the Primeira Liga, and there is no denying his serious potency in the final third, so he could certainly be worth the punt.

“His overall game is good. He is big and strong, he can play on the ball and his finishing is ridiculously good,” said pundit John Wenham to Tottenham News.

“That would be an exciting signing.”
