Consumer credit grows by $41B in December, beating expectations

U.S. consumer borrowing swelled by $40.85B in December, compared with the $17.70B increase expected and the $5.37B decrease in the prior month (revised from -$7.50B).
Total outstanding consumer credit of $5.15T climbed from $5.11B in November, which was revised from $5.10B.
