Infamous Hollywood Home of Brittany Murphy and Britney Spears For Sale
The former home of Brittany Murphy
The Hollywood Hills home is being listed for $17,995,000, according to Zillow. It was also the site where Murphy was found collapsed on December 20, 2009. The Clueless actress was then taken to the Cedars-Sinai hospital where she died the same day.
At the time, it was found that Murphy died from a combination of pneumonia, anemia and prescription and over the counter drugs.
Murphy’s husband Simon Monjack was found dead on the same property 5 months after the death of his wife. He was 40 years old. The Los Angeles Coroner’s announced that Monjack died from similar causes as Murphy did.
On the home’s real estate listing, it is described as an “architectural gem, nestled within a coveted enclave of celebrity homes.” The listing also explains that the house “has undergone a complete metamorphosis, emerging as a testament to luxurious living and meticulous craftsmanship.”
The home, which was built in 1997, features 6 beds and 9 baths within 9,400 square feet. When the Murphys purchased the home, they were not the first celebrities to live within its walls.
The couple purchased the home from Spears, pop star and music icon, in 2003 for $3.85 million dollars.
During her time living in the home, the “Toxic” singer claimed to have had supernatural experiences there.
In a 2021 episode of the “We Need To Talk About Britney” podcast, her former makeup artist Julianne Kaye described her experience with the singer.
“[Spears] had that place up on Sunset Plaza — and I’m just gonna say, this is really weird … She calls me … I had my friend do reiki healing on her,” said Kaye at the time. “He had come up; I guess she’d had a crazy partying weekend and needed to relax. He left, and she swears to God that he opened some spirit portal or something, and these bad spirits had come in … and they were trying to, like, push her down the stairs or something crazy.”
Kaye said after that experience, Spears never came back to the home, and instead stayed at the Casa Del Mar hotel.
“She goes, ‘I know you’re gonna think I’m crazy. I’m not crazy. I know what I saw. I know what I felt,’” Kaye added.
Murphy was also reported to feel uneasy about the property. In a 2010 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Monjack detailed the actress’s discomfort with the home.
“She absolutely hated the Rising Glen house,” Monjack told the outlet. “Every time we would drive up Sunset, Brit would say, ‘Please, can we stay at the Beverly Hills Hotel?’ I’d say: ‘Honey, you’ve got to be realistic. We have our house, a 10,000-square-foot home. We’re going to stay in it.’”
