Fox Valley Tech’s strong industry ties help new graduates secure spots in the workforce

APPLETON (WLUK) — Fox Valley Technical College is holding its winter commencement Friday night.
There are 618 total graduates, and each one knows that now is when the real work begins. For many of these graduates, it’s time to find a spot in the workforce. Others are pursuing more education.
“It’s been a lot of homework, but it’s been worth it. I’m so excited to finish this one and move on to the next step,” graduate Madelyne Sosa-Jaramillo said.
Sosa-Jaramillo graduated Friday night with an Associate’s degree in Foundations of Teacher Education. While she still has more schooling ahead, she’s applying for her substitute teaching license now, helping her get a jump-start in the workforce.
“I look forward to sharing my story with students and also just bringing learning to students because learning is amazing and I’m excited to be the teacher,” Sosa-Jaramillo said.
Sosa-Jaramillo is not alone. Students graduating from Fox Valley Tech with a job already secured isn’t uncommon.
“I don’t see jobs being a problem for our students any time soon,” Vice President of Learning & Chief Academic Officer Dr. Jennifer Lanter said.
FVTC typically sees between 91% and 94% of students employed within six months of graduating, and that’s expected to ring true for Friday’s graduating class.
“I think in many cases, it’s our faculty who are absolutely connected to industry partners in the area and their relationships with the employers. So that helps students have connections and usually the connections are what helps get jobs,” Lanter said.
It’s not by accident their students are leaving with jobs. Lanter boasts Fox Valley Tech’s hands-on opportunities and equipment are second to none. She said the college’s affordability and connections to employers not only helps students, but also the community.
“We’re supported with taxpayer dollars, and so we absolutely want to be able to give back and provide to the counties that we serve,” Lanter said.
